Rotary International
Rotary Clubs in both California and Romania have actively supported the projects of Music Camp International. In 2011, the Curtea Veche Rotary Club of Bucharest, was the host club, and the Monterey Peninsula Sunrise Club in California was the partner Club for an International Matching Grant from Rotary International. This grant enabled Music Camp International to be the service provider in conducting a Music Camp for over 500 children in Bucharest, Romania. The concert was part of the Enescu Festival and established the all-time record attendance for a concert in the Festival Square. The children were accompanied by the George Enescu Philharmonic of Bucharest.
In 2014, Rotary District 5230 in California enlisted the participation of four clubs to help underwrite the Music Camp for children of the four sub-communities of the Pata Rât area—the dump on the outskirts of Cluj, Romania. This historic decision not only brought dignity to many children who have no life outside their home in the landfill—where they live as victims of poverty and prejudice, it broke down barriers between the communities that have existed for years, and inspired many to go to school for the first time.
